Reddies Edged Out by Patriots, 6-1

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After starting off 1-0 on the season, Henderson State has not played since that season-opening victory, with weather canceling three matches during the absence. In the Reddies' first action since Feb. 2, then, the visiting University of Texas at Tyler Patriots edged out HSU, 6-1.

Each doubles match went at least 10 games as none of the groupings were willing to give an inch. The tandem of Mulan Kamoe and Franny Nyarko saw its second win of the season, improving to 2-0. The undefeated duo was faced with a 4-3 hole before holding serve and then breaking UTT's Chloe Chawner and Leony Deutschmann for a 5-4 lead, which Kamoe and Nyarko held for an eventual 7-5 victory.

While each team got one doubles point, Georjemah Row and Vinda Teally were heading into a tiebreaker at No. 2. With the match at a 3-3 tie in the extra session, UTT's Akshaya Suresh hit some big winners to lead her and teammate Chloe Dix to a 7-6 (7-4) win, giving the Patriots the doubles nod.

Singles started out in favor for the home team as four of the six Reddies raced out to 1-0 set leads. Each match would wind up going to a third set, however, where the momentum garnered by the Patriot ladies was too much for HSU to overcome as all four went the Patriots' way. Row was the lone Reddie to earn a singles victory on the afternoon as she battled her way back through two tiebreakers after dropping the opening set, taking the match 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (705).

There was not a single match that was not competitive as five of the six singles matches were won by the girl who lost the opening set as Reddies one-through-five saw their matches go the distance. Two of the matches had two sets settled by tiebreakers.

HSU will get back on a normal schedule with its next match coming Tuesday, Mar. 2 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bettye Wallace Tennis Center. To stay up to date with all things pertaining to Reddies tennis as well as getting live match updates, follow @HSU_Tennis on Twitter.
