HSU Earns Second Win in Comeback Against Delta

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Vinda Teally and Mulan Kamoe each claimed a come-from-behind victory after dropping their respective first sets as Henderson State pulled off the victory over the Delta State Lady Statesmen, 4-3.

Henderson started the match with something they haven't done all season, which was sweep doubles play. Nos. 1-3 all saw victory, including Kamoe and Franny Nyarko as the duo returned to the winning side after last match's first doubles loss of the season, claiming a 6-0 win over DSU's Valentine Colin and Katheryne Valencia Perez.

With the Reddies' second time earning the doubles nod on the year, three singles victories stood between them and taking the overall match. The Lady Statesmen started off as if they were going to see victory, however, as two quick victories for Delta on Courts 3 and 5 gave it the 2-1 lead. Georjemah Row's 6-3, 6-3 victory in the two spot evened the match, 2-2.

With three matches still in play and either team needing two wins to claim the victory, Kamoe, Teally, and Erica Jaggernauth all fell in their respective first sets. With HSU needing a major comeback, both Kamoe and Teally came back in set number two to force a third set.

After a late scratch from Henderson's Katie Watts due to illness, Honiara, Solomon Islands' own made her first appearance in singles this season as Teally made the most of her opportunity, winning 6-2 in the final set, leaving the overall match up to Kamoe. The Reddies' No. 1 singles player left no doubt, as she won her final set, 6-1, clinching the overall match for HSU, 4-3.

Next up for Henderson State (2-3, 0-1) is its second conference match of the season when it takes on Arkansas Tech in Russellville, Arkansas, Friday, Mar. 19 at 12 p.m. Immediately following the GAC bout, HSU will face off against Nebraska-Kearney at 3 p.m. in a neutral site contest.
