Henderson Hosts Golden Suns in 4-Game Series

GAME COVERAGE LINKS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State (11-20, 8-13) currently sits in a tie for ninth with East Central (12-15, 8-13) in the Great American Conference standings as Southwestern Oklahoma State (8-15, 8-10) holds the coveted eighth spot.

With both ECU and SWOSU facing opponents among the top-3 in the GAC this weekend, the Reddies will look to make a move up the standings when the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns come to Dee White Field for a 4-game series on Saturday and Sunday, with the first three contests acting as conference games. First pitch in the first doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.

REDDIES REPORT
Henderson State is coming off a 1-0 victory of rival Ouachita Baptist where HSU won the season series over the Tigers after splitting with them in a Tuesday doubleheader earlier this season. Mallory Brewer worked a complete game, allowing zero runs while striking out five batters in the win.

With the victory over OBU, the junior pitcher out of El Dorado, Arkansas, saw her fifth win this season and the 20th of her Henderson career. Currently in eighth place for all-time wins in HSU history, Brewer needs two more to pass Lauren Carley to move into seventh place.

Kailey Reese has four opportunities this weekend to solidify herself as the all-time leader in triples in Reddies history as the Rio Vista, Texas, native needs one more to place herself atop the list. Reese is the only Reddie to have a triple this season.

Kaitlyn O'Quinn leads all Henderson batters with a hitting average of .373 and is second in the entire league with 38 hits. Abbie Moore has broken the .300 mark as the sophomore is hitting .311 with a team-high 14 RBIs and three home runs. Moore and Czoey White are tied for first on the team with seven doubles on the year.

Since 2012, Henderson State holds the slight edge in the series with Tech, leading 23-20, including seeing victory in the last meeting between these two teams in February of 2020, 2-0. The Reddies are 10-6 at home against the Golden Suns in that time with the last four-game series with ATU at Dee White Field being split 2-2 between the programs.

SCOUTING ARKANSAS TECH
Arkansas Tech has won its last five games while giving up only a single run in each of those victories, sweeping Ouachita Baptist over the weekend and Harding in a Tuesday doubleheader. The Golden Suns are now 14-13 overall and 11-7 in the GAC and are fifth in the conference standings.

Shannon Lasey has seen the most time in the circle for ATU this season, making 11 appearances this year, all of which were starts. She has pitched 53.2 innings for 43 strikeouts, second to only Maddy Prough (46), who leads the team with three saves. Kalia Cartwright carries the lowest ERA of the Tech bullpen at 1.56 as she typically plays the role of reliever for the Golden Suns, having only pitched 18 innings this season while still seeing 16 strikeouts and one save.

At the plate, Arkansas Tech is led by Caitlyn Wells who is hitting .389 and boasts a team-high 28 hits, including nine doubles, and 18 RBIs. Tymber Riley is the team-leader in runs with 20 while she also has 20 hits and seven doubles on the season. Makenzie Addis is second in the entire GAC with seven home runs.
