HSU Wins 6-1, Completes BOTR Season Sweep

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – A short two weeks ago, Henderson State edged out Ouachita Baptist at the Bettye Wallace Tennis Center, 4-3. Today, the Reddies played their best match of the season, completing the season sweep of OBU in the Battle of the Ravine, defeating the Tigers on their home court, 6-1.

At doubles, Mulan Kamoe and Franny Nyarko kept up their dominance at No. 1, defeating OBU's Makeilah Turner and Austynn Crocker, 6-1. The Reddies' top duo is 7-3 on the season. Georjemah Row and Katie Watts won their fourth match together, bringing their record to 4-1 since becoming partners.

With three singles victories needed to clinch the overall match, HSU got it in order as Nos. 1-3 all saw straight set wins, including Franny Nyarko who stormed back from being a break down in her second set to defeat Shelly Davilus of Ouachita Baptist, 6-0, 6-3.

With the match already clinched, Erica Jaggernauth and Vinda Teally had their matches left to extend the margin of victory. After dropping their respective first sets, both Jaggernauth and Teally fought back to force a third set where they won, 10-2 and 10-7, respectively.

Since falling to Clarisa Valenzuela in the first match with OBU, Jaggernauth has won back-to-back singles matches, including getting revenge on Valenzuela in today's match. Teally won her second singles match of the year in only her third appearance in the singles rotation this season.

The Reddies (4-6, 2-3) are currently fifth in the GAC with the conference tournament two weeks away. Henderson will close out its regular season at the Bettye Wallace Tennis Center when Southeastern Oklahoma St. comes to Arkadelphia on Friday, April 16, followed by Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday.
