Henderson Battles Ouachita Baptist Thursday Night

GAME COVERAGE LINKS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Reddies just spent four days in Western Oklahoma where they fell in back-to-back contests to Northwestern Oklahoma St. and No. 17 Southwestern Oklahoma St. in what was HSU's first two-game losing streak of the season.

Now back in Arkadelphia, Henderson State will look to maintain its undefeated home record and improve to 10-4 and 5-3 in conference when cross-street rival Ouachita Baptist comes to the Duke Wells Center Thursday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m.

REDDIES REPORT
Ashley Farrar kept up her scoring streak over the two-game road trip as she has now scored in double-digits in all 13 contests HSU has played this season. At 17.1 points per game, Farrar is sixth in the GAC in scoring whereas Lani Snowden and Gracie Raby come in at 18th and 19th with 13.2 and 12.7 ppg, respectively. Henderson as a team is fourth in the country in scoring offense (84.0 ppg).

Maci Mains played her best game of the season against Southwestern on Saturday, going for 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 3-6 from deep, and five assists in 21 minutes of action. After averaging 15.4 points per game last season, the senior guard will look to round back into shape after averaging 5.9 points through 13 games since recovering from an off-season ankle injury.

One area Henderson needs to improve upon has been in the rebounding department. Of the seven conference games played so far this season, Henderson has won the battle on the glass twice and has not been on the plus side since defeating Arkansas Tech back on Dec. 11. The Reddies are 2-3 against conference opponents when out-rebounded.

When playing inside the Duke Wells Center, the Reddies have scored 88.8 points per game compared to 83.1 ppg on the road. Defensively shows an even bigger marked difference with HSU allowing a staggering 57.0 ppg at home and 81.9 ppg on the road. Henderson is 5-0 at home, including 3-0 in home conference games, compared to 4-3 on the road.

Henderson has owned the Battle of the Ravine rivalry in recent years as it has won eight of the last 10 meetings. The last time this meeting took place in the Duke Wells Center, however, OBU came away with its first victory over HSU in nine meetings. Since 2012, the Reddies have only lost to the Tigers three times at home.

SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTIST
The Tigers are coming off their third conference victory of the season after defeating Oklahoma Baptist, 67-63. Prior to that, OBU did the exact thing HSU did, just in reverse order as Ouachita fell to Southwestern and Northwestern on the road. The Tigers are 0-5 when playing away from Bill Vining Arena.

Ouachita boasts the nation's leading scorer in freshman Aspen Thornton, who is averaging an eye-popping 26.5 points per game. On top of shooting over 46.4% from the field and 41.1% from three, Thornton is connecting on 83.5% (76-91) of her free-throws. Behind Thornton is Makayla Miller and Laney Mears, who are averaging 15.9 and 11.5 ppg, respectively.

In last season's 69-66 victory over HSU in Duke Wells Center, Miller led all scorers with 19 points while OBU as a team shot 40% (4-10) from beyond-the-arc while the Reddies shot 26.7% (4-15). The Tigers also won the battle at the charity stripe, 80.8% (21-26) to 60% (12-20).

What To Watch For…
-With a win on Thursday, Henderson will have started a season 6-0 at home for only the third time in Jill Thomas' nine years at HSU. The last time the Reddies did that, they finished the season 20-10 and 14-8 in conference and made it to the GAC Tournament Semifinals.
