ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After suffering its first home loss all season, Henderson State looks to return to its winning ways inside the Duke Wells Center when the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm come to play Saturday, Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. Similarly to East Central's situation this weekend's matchup will be Southeastern's first trip to Arkadelphia in nearly two years.
REDDIES REPORT
Henderson saw its worst three-point shooting performance in a losing effort on Thursday when HSU fell to East Central, 76-71, after shooting just 27.3% (6-22) from beyond-the-arc. The two other times the Reddies shot worse than that from deep, they were able to pull out wins against Arkansas-Fort Smith and Arkansas-Monticello.
Despite landing in foul trouble early on, keeping her on the bench for the entire second quarter against the Tigers,
Ashley Farrar once again logged another 20-point performance, bringing her scoring average to 18.5 points per game, which is the third highest in the GAC and 36th nationally.
Karrington Whaley scored her most points since early December when she erupted for 20 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter alone, to reach 1000 points for her career. The Springdale, Arkansas, native also secured six rebounds on Thursday to move into fourth place on the program's all-time rebounding list with 732.
Since 2012, HSU leads the all-time series against Southeastern, 10-9, but has lost the last two meetings. The last time this game took place in Arkadelphia, however, Henderson defeated that year's GAC Tournament Champion Savage Storm team, 77-72, behind 16 points from Whaley. The Savage Storm got their revenge later that same season in the GAC Tournament.
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA ST.
On Thursday, Southeastern played its first game since Jan. 8 as Ouachita Baptist spoiled the Savage Storm's return-to-play fun with a 72-51 drubbing. Prior to that game and the pause to its season, Southeastern had won four in a row and was sitting at second in the conference standings.
Southeastern has played one of the most difficult schedules of anyone in the GAC, including three nationally ranked teams – two of which were ranked in the Top-10 at the time of competition. Outside of those games, SOSU is 7-5 overall and 3-4 on the road.
Still very much in the hunt at 5-4 in league play and in fifth place, SOSU is led by the one-two punch of Briley Moon (15.2 ppg) and Kamryn Cantwell (15.1 ppg). Moon and Cantwell are also leading the Savage Storm in rebounds and assists, respectively. The last time these two teams played in the 2020 GAC Tournament Semifinals, Cantwell exploded for 30 points while Moon registered 19 as SOSU defeated HSU in overtime, 87-84.
