Reddies Host Champion Christian in Home Opener

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After beginning the season on the road, Henderson State is set to host Champion Christian College in its home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Reddies and Tigers.  
 
REDDIES REPORT
HSU began the 2022-23 season with a defeat to No. 19 Missouri Southern State, 74-59. Abbie Jiles led the team with 21 points and seven rebounds. The last game of the GAC/MIAA Conference Challenge had Henderson fall to Emporia State, 79-51. Ashley Farrar had 20 points and three defensive rebounds.
 
The Reddies against Missouri Southern shot 34% and 27% from the field and beyond the arc while shooting 35% from the field and 28% from the three-point line versus Emporia. HSU's bench over the two games contributed 25 points – 15 against MSSU and ten versus ESU.  
 
Farrar and Jiles currently lead the team in scoring with 34 and 29 points, respectively. Farrar has connected on seven three-pointers and is shooting 58.3% from deep, while Jiles leads the team with 11 rebounds and nine assists.
 
The Reddies' defense has six players with one or more steals and as a team have forced 15. Jiles leads the team with five, while Farrar and JJ Eddens each have three. Henderson has also recorded 39 defensive rebounds and two blocks.
 
SCOUTING CHAMPION CHRISTIAN
Champion Christian split its first two games in the Champion Classic with an 88-56 victory over Bacone College and a 76-51 defeat to Arkansas Baptist College. Before taking on the Reddies, the Tigers went to Russellville, Ark. to square off with Arkansas Tech and after four periods, ATU defeated CCU 94-45.
 
Kamryn Gentry led the team with 11 points, five blocks and 17 rebounds against the Golden Suns. Gentry went 7-8 at the free throw line and recorded five blocks. 
 
WHAT TO WATCH FOR…  
  • The Reddies have won six straight home openers and have not lost one since the 2015-16 season. Last year HSU defeated Christian Brothers 85-45 in its first home game of the season.
