Henderson Faces UAM in GAC Road Game

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. –  The Henderson State women's basketball program makes its annual trip to the Steelman Fieldhouse to take on the University of Arkansas-Monticello this Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
REDDIES REPORT
Ashley Farrar's career-high 44 points and 15 rebounds helped HSU win its conference opener against Southern Arkansas in a high-scoring overtime thriller, 98-90. The action-packed game was played at an electric pace as both teams raced up and down the court all game. A last-second bucket from Southern Arkansas sent the game into overtime, but a red-hot HSU offense outscored SAU 17-9 to win the game.
 
The  Reddies had three players score double-digit points against the Muleriders, led by Farrar. Gracie Raby had her best outing of the season, going 8-12 from the floor and scoring a season-high 16 points. All eleven players who featured for Henderson had at least one rebound, as the team finished with 46 total rebounds.
 
Henderson is fifth in the GAC in scoring, averaging 69.9 points a game. Farrar is the team's leading scorer with 173 points in seven games and is averaging 24.7 points a game, which is the best in the GAC. As a team, HSU is shooting 37% from the field and 32% from the three-point line.
 
HSU has won three consecutive games over Arkansas-Monticello, including both of last year's contests. In the most recent matchup, Henderson defeated the Blossoms 68-58 inside the Steelman Fieldhouse. UAM leads the all-time series 40-57, but the Reddies have had success in recent meetings, winning six out of the last nine contests.
 
SCOUTING ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO
UAM is 2-4 to start the season under its new head coach David Midlick. Arkansas-Monticello's two wins are against non-conference foes Delta State University and Arkansas Baptist College. In their first GAC game, the Blossoms fell to Arkansas Tech on the road, 75-63.
 
Arkansas-Monticello is 11th in the league in scoring, averaging 60.7 points a game, led by Baily Harris, who leads the team in scoring(85) and points per game(14.2). The Blossoms are shooting 40% from the field and 31% from beyond the arc. UAM's defense ranks seventh in the GAC, holding teams to 66 points a game.
 
Against Arkansas Tech, the Blossoms had three players record double-digit points, led by Alindsey Long, who had 20. Harris had a team-high five rebounds while also scoring nine points. UAM's bench finished the game with 21 points, with Nyah Banks leading the way with ten. Long was the team's biggest threat from deep as she connected on 6-10 triples.
 
WHAT TO WATCH FOR…
- Farrar is nine points away from reaching 1000 career points. The senior entered the season with 818 points and has scored 173 in the first seven games this year. Farrar currently has 991 career points, averaging 13.1 a game.
