Henderson opened the 2022 season with the fourth annual Hawkins-McGhee Memorial Tournament, consisting of eight teams from around the region. After seeing a tough first two days, HSU played its best game of the tournament on the last day against undefeated Cameron, falling slightly, 9-5.

Through opening weekend, sophomore

Monica Monreal saw two home runs for the tournament while freshman

Â
In addition to a solid opening weekend at the plate, Johnson also appeared three times inside the circle as she is leading the Henderson pitching staff with a 2.62 ERA, having only allowed four hits and two runs while seeing six strikeouts. Fellow-freshman
Erika Bittinger backs Johnson up with a 4.38 ERA, having also made three appearances.
Â
Henderson and Texas A&M-International have had two all-time meetings, with HSU winning both matchups. The last time the Reddies and the Dustdevils met was in January of 2020 when
Abbie Moore and
Monica Monreal combined for three hits and three RBIs to help lead their squad to a 6-3 win as part of the Arkansas Tech Winter Invitational.

After TAMIU, HSU will face St. Mary's at 3 p.m. on Saturday and then again Sunday at 10 a.m. The Reddies will close out the Portland Tournament with Texas A&M-Kingsville Sunday, Feb. 13 at 12:30 p.m. Henderson has never beaten the Rattlers of St. Mary and have not beaten Kingsville since 2009 with the Javelinas sporting a three-game winning streak in the all-time series.
