RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Mulan Kamoe earned her first Great American Conference Player of the Week honor of her career, the league announced Wednesday afternoon. Kamoe's the first HSU tennis player to win the weekly honor since
Georjemah Row won it after the 2021 season-opener.
Off a three-match opening weekend, the junior from Nasoso Nadi, Fiji, went 2-1 in doubles and singles, both of which came at the number one spot.
Kamoe won both of her singles matches in straight sets, including a straight-set victory over the 31st ranked singles player Valentina Gonzalez of Angelo State and a doubles victory with Row over the No. 5 ranked doubles team of Ena Ovcina and Gonzalez.
"Mulan had a great opening weekend, beating some tough opponents in both singles and doubles," said head coach
Annabel Rowlands. "I am sure she will continue to work hard in practice and build on this throughout the season."
After last season's 6-6 singles record at the one spot and 9-3 doubles record in the same position, Kamoe came into this season as the No. 14 singles player in the region while her and Row carried a No. 10 doubles regional ranking into the 2022 opener.
Kamoe and Henderson St. head to Russellville, Arkansas, to take on Arkansas Tech in a non-conference contest Friday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m.
