Short-Handed Reddies Split Day’s Matches

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – With the Henderson State women's tennis team down a player, the Reddies split the day's matches in Memphis, Tennessee, falling to Christian Brothers, 5-2, before edging out Rhodes College, 4-3.

Both Erica Jaggernauth and Vinda Teally went 2-0 in singles on the day with both players winning in three sets. In both of her matches, Jaggernauth had to fight off being down a set to come from behind to claim victory.

The doubles team of Mulan Kamoe and Georjemah Row went 2-0 on the day, winning by a score of 6-2 in both matches. Henderson's No. 1 tandem is now 6-3 at the top line.

In the first match of the day against Christian Brothers, Kamoe/Row got the sole doubles win for the Reddies, defeating CBU's Raquel Amaro and Maud Vandeputte, 6-2. Amaro, the No. 47 ranked singles player in Division II, would get her revenge on Kamoe in singles play.

With the Lady Bucs rattling off a quick three singles victories, the match was clinched, leaving any third sets to be played as 10-point super tiebreakers. Both Jaggernauth and Teally, after falling in their respective opening sets 6-1, stormed back to defeat CBU's Beatriz Costa and Eva Garcia 1-6, 6-3, 10-8 and 1-6, 7-5, 11-9, respectively.

In the latter match, the duo of Kamoe/Row once again claimed the only doubles match for the Reddies, defeating RC's top doubles team of Michelle Adan-Pol and Emma McHale, 6-2. With Rhodes needed just three singles victories, the familiar Jaggernauth and Teally yet again pulled out marathon matches.

With Kamoe and Row taking their respective matches in straight sets while Rhodes took the nod at Nos. 5 & 6, RC held the overall lead, 3-2, needing just one more singles victory. While Teally won her first set only to fall in her second set, Jaggernauth once again found herself down a set and in need of rattling off two straight sets to win the match.

Both Teally and Jaggernauth won their respective third sets with flying colors, defeating Emily Holderness and Lea Letourneau in the match-defining third set, 10-6 and 10-2, respectively. With the pair of victories on the day, Jaggernauth holds the second best singles record on the team at 4-5, all of which have come at the No. 3 line.

Henderson St. (3-6) will face Ouachita Baptist across the street at the Ward Tennis Center Friday, April 1 at 3 p.m. in a non-conference match before beginning GAC play Tuesday, April 5 when the Reddies head to Searcy, Arkansas, to take on the currently-ranked No. 33 Harding Lady Bisons.
