Softball Hosts Delta State in Wednesday Twin Bill

GAME COVERAGE LINKS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – For the second time this year, Henderson State will play Delta State in a mid-week doubleheader, this time at Dee White Field Wednesday, Mar. 23 at 2 & 4 p.m. In the season's first two meetings, HSU split the pair of contests with the Lady Statesmen.

REDDIES REPORT
In their last time out on the field, the Reddies split the final day of a three-game weekend series against Northwestern Oklahoma State, winning the first contest of the doubleheader, 9-6, before falling in the rubber match, 4-2. Henderson's last five losses have come by a combined six runs.

Freshman Madison Treutlein has taken full advantage since head coach David Martinez decided to move her into the starting lineup. In her 22 games played, Treutlein is hitting a team-best .400, which is also the 19th highest in the GAC. The Frisco, Texas, native has seen four multi-hit games in the last five contests and is currently sporting a five-game hitting streak.

After being tied with Brooke Johnson for the clubhouse leader in hits, Justine Burch is now leading the squad with 28 hits after claiming a hit in each outing over this past weekend against the Lady Rangers. Directly behind her is Abbie Moore with 28 hits and a team-high seven home runs, which is tied for fifth in the conference. Moore is slugging .614 in 28 games played.

Over the past week, Erika Bittinger has gone 1-0 from within the circle and picked up her second save of the season. The freshman's two saves is tied for second among the league leaders. On the year, Bittinger (3-3) has made 17 appearances and seven starts and is carrying a 4.44 ERA.

In the first meeting with DSU, Henderson put up a season-high 15 hits as five Reddies claimed multiple hits, including Moore and Johnson, who each logged three. Two of those three hits for Johnson were home runs as she became the first HSU player to hit two homers in one game since April 19, 2019. Delta St. captured the second game, bringing the season series to 1-1.

SCOUTING DELTA STATE
The Lady Statesmen ride into Arkadelphia on a five-game winning streak, including a doubleheader sweep of Arkansas-Monticello, 6-2 and 4-2. The DSU offense is riding high, having scored 43 runs over the last three games against the Gulf South's University of West Georgia.

A large portion of the DSU lineup is hitting over .300, with junior infielder Taylor Picou leading the pack with a .429 batting average, followed by sophomore outfielder Alana Walker at .400. In the first pair of games against the Reddies, Picou led all Lady Statesmen batters with four hits, two of which were a double and a triple, and four RBIs, while Walker also logged four base-knocks.

Delta has three arms it throws primarily, beginning with Lacey Coats, who has seen the most work of the DSU pitching staff with 58 innings pitched. Hannah Hasle and Olivia Burns complete the trio with them having thrown 47.1 and 43.2 innings, respectively. Hasle owns the best ERA of the bunch at 3.70.
