Softball Hosts Southwestern in Weekend Series

GAME COVERAGE LINKS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After being on the road for back-to-back Great American Conference weekend series', Henderson State softball will host its first league weekend outing since March 5 when the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs come to Dee White Field for a doubleheader Friday, Mar. 25 at 2 & 4 p.m. and a final game Saturday, Mar. 26 at 11 a.m.

REDDIES REPORT
A comeback that came up just short in game two of HSU's mid-week twin bill against Delta St. had the Reddies drop the pair of contests to the Lady Statesmen, 4-0 and 9-6. After splitting the first two matchups with DSU, Delta took the season series, 3-1.

Madison Treutlein delivered one of the best games HSU has seen from a player in recent years in game two against the Lady Statesmen, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBIs. The freshman is the first Reddie to register four hits in one game since Kailey Reese went 4-for-4 with two RBIs back on Feb. 29, 2020.

After going 13-for-25 at the plate and nine RBIs in seven games, Treutlein has seen her numbers elevate her towards the top of several categories among the clubhouse leaders. The Reedy High School product is leading the team in batting average (.419) and on-base percentage (.422) while being second in slugging percentage (.500) and hits (26), sitting just four off the team leader despite playing eight less games.

Both Henderson and Southwestern are sporting 4-10 GAC records coming into this weekend. Sine 2012, HSU leads the series over SWOSU, 23-11, and has won eight of the last 10 matchups in Arkadelphia. This will be the first time these teams have played at Dee White Field since 2018.

SCOUTING SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA ST.
After dropping six consecutive conference contests, SWOSU has won back-to-back league games against Ouachita Baptist in Weatherford, Oklahoma, 9-4 and 9-3. Where the Bulldogs have struggled the most this season is on the road where they are 0-8.

Southwestern has five batters hitting over .300, led by freshman infielder Maddie Rahon (.403). In addition to batting average, Rahon leads her team with 29 hits, seven doubles and a .583 slugging percentage. Backing up Rahon is Tara Hibbler, who is hitting .340.

From within the circle, junior Brianna Cryer has seen the most work at 68.2 innings pitched, with senior Alisa Friesen leading the pitching staff with a 6.00 ERA. Both arms have combined to pitch all eight complete games for SWOSU, while the Bulldogs will throw a third pitcher, freshman Kaylee Barkley, who has pitched 23.1 innings.
