ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – For the second time this season, the Henderson State women's tennis team defeated Ouachita Baptist, 5-2. The win gives HSU its conference victory of the season and its 16th consecutive victory over the Tigers.
Â
As it was in the first matchup of the season between the two rival schools, the Reddies swept through doubles play, with No. 34
Mulan Kamoe and
Georjemah Row cruising to a 6-0 win at the top line. Kamoe/Row have won nine consecutive matches as doubles partners.
Â
After
Erica Jaggernauth and
Tirzah Bailey claimed the doubles points for HSU with their 6-2 win at Court 2,
Vinda Teally and
Danna Nunez fought their way out of a 4-3 deficit to complete the sweep, 6-4.
Â
Both Kamoe and Row saw different singles opponents from the first meeting at Courts 1 and 2, yet it made little difference as both Reddies came away with straight-set victories. After Kamoe edged OBU's Austynn Crocker in the first set, 7-5, the Nasoso Nadi, Fiji, native proved too much in the second set, taking it 6-0.
Â
Jaggernauth was the first Henderson singles player to get on the board after a 6-2, 6-2 win over the Tigers' Olivia Gaston – her second victory over her this season – before
Tirzah Bailey, with the match already decided, getting her revenge on Clarisa Valenzuela 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, after Valenzuela downed Bailey in the first meeting.
Â
Henderson St. (5-9, 1-3) will face Arkansas Tech Friday, April 22 at p.m. for the final match of the 2022 regular season before the GAC Tournament April 28-30 in Bentonville, Arkansas.
