Softball Heads to Sooner State to Face Savage Storm

GAME COVERAGE LINKS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – With two weekends remaining the 2022 regular season, Henderson State will face its second-to-last conference opponent in the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm Friday, April 22 at 3 p.m. before a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. with game three to follow.

REDDIES REPORT
After taking a break from league play with a trip to Commerce, Texas, to play No. 19 Texas A&M-Commerce, Henderson State put up a fight in both contests, falling in game one, 6-3, before pulling off the near upset in game two, 1-0, thanks to Monica Monreal pitching a complete game while only allowing one hit.

Abbie Moore registered her ninth home run of the season in the first outing with the Lions as she now has nine on the season to lead the team. With that home run came a pair of RBIs, putting Moore in a tie for ninth for the most RBIs in program history with 83. Moore's 20 career home runs is also just four shy of the fifth most career homers all-time.

With six games remaining in the regular season, Henderson finds itself one game out of eighth place in the GAC standings, with both East Central and Ouachita Baptist tied for eighth at 10-17 in conference. Equally as big of a series for the Reddies' postseason hopes as HSU's own is ECU against OBU in Ada, Oklahoma, this weekend.

Henderson St. has not been to Durant, Oklahoma, since 2018, with wins being hard to come by over the last near-decade with the Reddies being only 2-10 at Southeastern since 2014. On the season, HSU is just 2-13 away from Dee White Field.

SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE
Currently in fifth place in the GAC standings, Southeastern could clinch a postseason berth if things go right for SOSU this weekend. The Savage Storm have made the GAC Tournament three consecutive years.

The Southeastern bats are led by junior outfielder Peyton Streetman (.350) and junior pitcher Cheyenne Mahy (.338). Streetman and Mahy have combined for 101 hits, with Mahy leading the team with 33 RBIs thanks to a team-high 15 doubles.

The Savage Storm predominately pitch two players: Amberlyn Walsworth and the aforementioned Mahy. Walsworth has seen 28 starts while Mahy has picked up 19 starts as the Savage Storm have only played one game this season where neither hurler has started in the circle. Walsworth has registered 167 strikeouts this season, which is second in the GAC.
