ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – In Henderson State's final non-conference game, the Reddies will host nationally ranked No. 9 Texas Woman's. The tip off between the Reddies and Pioneers is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25 in the Duke Wells Center.
REDDIES REPORT
HSU (3-2) fell for the second time this season last time out when Pittsburg State bested the Reddies 95-72. Two players saw double-digit points for Henderson, with
Ashley Farrar pacing the side with 18 points, followed by
Olivia Allen with 16, as the team shot 33.3 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from beyond the arc.
The Reddies rank first in the league in made three-point field goals through the first five games, having converted 47 shots from deep on 126 attempts. Allen and Farrar combined for eight of the team's ten triples against Pitt State, with Farrar now leading the team with 13 three-pointers on the year.
Tori Gittens has converted 12 shots from deep, while Allen and
Natalie Cardenas have knocked down seven triples each.
Cardenas has been the team's main facilitator this season, leading the squad with 15 assists, averaging three per game. Most recently, the Mesquite, Texas native logged five of the team's 12 assists against the Gorillas while also seeing six rebounds and eight points. Along with Cardenas,
Brynlee Huggins also has an eye for picking out the right passes, with ten assists on the year after recording three against PSU.
In Henderson State's first meeting with Texas Woman's in Arkadelphia and just the third overall matchup, the Pioneers lead the series 2-0. All the other meetings have come on the home court of TWU, including last year when the Pioneers got the better of HSU 75-66. Farrar scored a team-high 23 points in that game and had six rounds, while
Jadah Pickens recorded nine points and eight rebounds.
SCOUTING NO. 9 TEXAS WOMEN'S
No. 9 Texas Woman's has gotten off to a fast start this season, opening the year with back-to-back wins over top 15 teams, including a 76-71 victory over then No. 2 Minnesota State Mankato. Since those wins, the Pioneers have won four consecutive games to find themselves ranked in the top 10 of the WBCA Poll with a 6-0 record.
TWU is averaging 71.0 points through its first six games and is led by forward Ashley Ingram, who paces the team with 19.2 points per game and is shooting a blistering 70.9 percent from the field. Ingram has posted double-digit points in all six games, including a 29-point outing in the win over Minnesota State Mankato. The junior also leads the team in rebounding, with 43 boards on the year.
Jada Celsur joins Ingram as the only other Pioneer scoring in double-digits, as the sophomore guard is seeing 10.3 points per game. In addition, Celsur leads the team in assists with 19 on the year and had five to go along with her 14 points in the Pioneers' last game against Colorado School of Mines.
