Reddies Face Texas Woman’s in Midweek Game Tuesday

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After opening GAC play with a series win, Henderson State will travel to Denton, Texas to face Texas Women's in a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday, Feb. 28, beginning at 4 p.m. at Dianne Baker Field.
 
REDDIES REPORT
Henderson went 1-1 in the twin bill to begin the series against Northwestern Oklahoma State, winning the first game 10-5, but the Lady Rangers forced a rubber match with a 2-1 victory in the second game. The Reddies clinched their first GAC series win after holding NWOSU scoreless in the third contest and putting up eight runs in five innings.
 
Savannah Carrigan came in for relief in the first contest and pitched the final two innings, and gave up one hit and zero runs while striking out three batters. The Little Rock, Ark. got her second start of the season in the third contest and threw a complete game shutout and gave up one hit.
 
The Reddies are fifth in the GAC in pitching with a team ERA of 3.06, led by Katelyn McMahan, who has pitched 21.2 innings with ten strikeouts and an ERA of 2.49. Meagan Allen has a team-high 27 strikeouts and 28.1 innings of work, while Brooke Johnson is 3-1 in the circle.  
 
It has been 11 years since Henderson and Texas Women's last played each other. In the first meeting, TWU defeated the Reddies 9-1 in five innings back in 2012. 
 
SCOUTING TEXAS WOMEN'S
TWU enters the game against Henderson on a three-game losing streak after getting swept in its most recent series by Lubbock Christian. Texas Women's is 9-7 to begin the season and had back-to-back series wins before falling to Lubbock Christian.
 
The Pioneers are hitting .204 through 16 games and are led by Alyssa LaBlanc, who has a batting average of .318 with 14 hits and has five doubles, four home runs and 15 RBIs. 
 
The Pioneers have three pitchers they have leaned on this season, led by LaBlanc, who has pitched 52.2 innings this season with 84 strikeouts in 17 appearances and an ERA of 2.26. Kelsie Briggs has 19 strikeouts in 30.0 innings of work and has not allowed a home run, while Jalee McDonald has seven appearances in the circle with 19 strikeouts and a 1-0 record.
