TEXARKANA, Texas –
Mulan Kamoe and
Kristina Kozlova paired up for the first time this season along with
Haarini Balakrishnan and
Jenna Kate Bohnert as the debut pairings led Henderson State (3-2) to a 6-1 victory over Texas A&M-Texarkana Tuesday afternoon.
After sweeping doubles play, HSU relinquished just five additional games before clinching the match with wins at Nos. 3-5 in singles action.
New partners Balakrishnan and Bohnert notched the first doubles win for the Reddies, winning at the No. 2 spot, 6-1.
Marianna Murcia and
Tirzah Bailey recorded their fourth win of the season, 6-2, as the tandem is 4-0 in 2023.
Kamoe and Kozlova, who came into the new campaign as the No. 6 doubles team in the Central Region, saw their first match together this season. The regionally-ranked duo claimed a 6-1 victory at the top line to complete the doubles sweep.
Sporting a 1-0 lead, Murcia, Balakrishnan and Bohnert made quick work of their opponents to clinch the match, losing a total of just five games between the three of them. Murcia kicked off the singles wins with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 3 to make it to 2-0.
Moments later, Balakrishnan and Bohnert each overcame their adversaries, 6-1, 6-1. With the contest already in hand, Kamoe and
Danna Nunez padded HSU's third win of the season, adding a pair of straight-set victories to the match total.
Henderson St. will return to the Bettye Wallace Tennis Center for non-conference match against Arkansas Tech Saturday, Mar. 4 at 1 p.m.
