ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State will look to bounce back when Oklahoma Baptist comes to town to face the Reddies on Sunday, Feb. 5, with tip-off set for 1 p.m. inside the Duke Wells Center.
REDDIES REPORT
Henderson fell in a closely contested game to Southern Nazarene 58-50 in the Duke Wells Center. The Reddies were off the mark in the first period but found their range in the second, shooting 63.6 percent from the field. Little separated the two sides after three periods of play, but SNU was able to pull away in the final minutes of the fourth.
Abbie Jiles led the way with 14 points, six rebounds and three steals. The Searcy, Ark. native recorded a career-high three blocks, passing her previous high set last season against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
Eryka Patton was 4-of-6 from the field, scoring a season-high eight points.
The Reddies' loss to the Crimson Storm is the second loss all season at home, with the only other defeat coming to Harding back in December. HSU had won three consecutive home contests over Northwestern Oklahoma State, Southwestern Oklahoma State and Arkansas-Monticello. This season, the Reddies are averaging 72.7 points inside the Duke Wells Center which is 6.1 more than their season average.
The first meeting between Henderson and Oklahoma Baptist went the Bison's way as they bested the Reddies 61-54. HSU and OKBU were tied 41-41 in the opening minutes of the fourth period, but the Bison were able to pull away in the final minutes.
Gracie Raby and
Sonni Martin were the team's leading scorers, with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
The Bison's win in the first meeting extends their win streak to two over the Reddies. However, Henderson leads the all-time series with nine victories and only four defeats. The last game inside the Duke Wells Center saw the Reddies overcome the Bison in overtime to get their fifth straight win at home against OKBU.
SCOUTING OKLAHOMA BAPTIST
The Bison were unsuccessful in their trip to Ouachita Baptist, falling to the Tigers 73-51. Madison Chambers paced the team with 12 points in three rebounds and was one of two players to reach double-digit scoring figures. Oklahoma Baptist is now 13-7 overall and 9-5 in GAC games.
OKBU has been without its leading scorer Erika Ankney in the last seven outings. In Ankney's absence, the team has leaned on Chambers and Jaedyn Getman. Chambers has reached double-digit scoring figures in the previous four games and is shooting 47.5 percent from the field. Getman is also converting over 40.0 percent of her shots from the field and has recorded two 20-point games in the Bison's last six outings.
Oklahoma Baptist has shot the ball well from all ranges this season. The Bison are third in field goal percentage (43.2), second in three-point percentage (35.9) and first in free throw percentage (80.2) in the GAC.
