Reddies Down Emporia St. 4-1 for Fourth Straight Win

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – For the first time since the 2015-16 season, the Henderson State women's tennis team has won four matches in a row after defeating Emporia State from the Bettye Wallace Tennis Center Tuesday afternoon, 4-1.

The victory also improves the Reddies to 7-3 on the season, which is the most wins in a season since that same 2015-16 campaign.

Henderson's No. 2 and 3 doubles team earned the doubles nod for HSU after previously-undefeated Mulan Kamoe and Kristina Kozlova dropped their match at the top line. Marianna Murcia and Tirzah Bailey evened out the wins with a 6-4 victory as the tandem improved to 8-1 on the season.

Haarini Balakrishnan and Jenna Kate Bohnert claimed the doubles point with the final doubles match, winning at No. 2 6-3 to give HSU the early 1-0 advantage.

After Emporia State evened the overall match at 1-1 with a win at the No. 3 line, Danna Nunez improved her singles record to 5-4 after downing ESU's Sheridan Wichman in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5. Bohnert got Henderson within one of clinching the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4 to finish off her 2-0 day.

The Reddies' tried and true top player came through with the match-winning triumph as No. 49 Kamoe defeated Emporia's Angelina Gnezdilova, 6-2, 6-3. Kamoe is now 8-1 at No. 1 singles on the year, including her victory over No. 9 Emilia Cosatto of No. 33 Northeastern St. on Sunday.

Henderson St. (7-3) will go for a GAC-era record five victories in a row when it hosts Collin County Community College Thursday, Mar. 16 at 12 p.m.
