Softball Hosts Southeastern Oklahoma State in Weekend Series

COVERAGE LINKS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After securing two wins in the midweek, Henderson State will look to continue the momentum when league-leaders Southeastern Oklahoma State visits Dee White Field Friday, Mar. 17.

The opening pitch for day one's game is set for 4 p.m., and the Reddies will wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 18, beginning at 12 p.m.

REDDIES REPORT
Henderson claimed two big wins in the midweek, sweeping rivals Ouachita Baptist in a two-game series. HSU outhit the Tigers 16-5 and scored six runs each game while holding OUA to two and three, respectively.

Brooke Johnson had key hits in both games and locked down the OUA bats in the circle in game one. The sophomore got the series going with a start in the circle and threw a complete game, only allowing two runs on five hits and striking out four batters. At the plate, Johnson was 3-6 with seven RBIs and a home run across the two contests.

Savannah Carrigan made her fourth start for the Reddies in the circle and went five innings in the second game, recording a season-high five punchouts and giving up two runs on three hits. In relief, Meagan Allen closed out the remaining 2.0 frames and had three strikeouts and gave up one run. Allen leads the HSU pitchers with 36 punch outs in 40.2 innings as batters are hitting .271 against the junior.

The series between Henderson State and Southeastern Oklahoma State has leaned in favor of the Savage Storm over the 48 meetings as SE leads the head-to-head matchup 33-15. The two sides played each other close in last year's meeting, but SE would escape with a series win. Abbie Moore and Madison Treutlein went 4-11 and 4-10 at the plate, respectively, and each had two RBIs over the three games.

SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE
The Savage Storm enter the three-game series against Henderson State at the top of the league standings after starting the season with series wins against Arkansas-Monticello, Southwestern Oklahoma State and Oklahoma Baptist. Most recently, SE split a doubleheader versus East Central in the midweek.

Southeastern Oklahoma State's pitching has been key to its strong start in conference play, as teams have only scored more than three runs four times in 12 GAC contests. The SE pitching staff is led by Amberlyn Walsworth, who leads the team with 63 punch-outs in 65.2 innings of work while batters are hitting .294 against the junior.

The Savage Storm has three players hitting over .300 this year, led by Cheyenne Mahy with a .306 batting average, and has three doubles and a triple on 19 hits. All four of Southeastern Oklahoma State's home runs have come off the bat of Mahy this season.
