Softball Hosts Arkansas Tech in Weekend Series

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After falling in the midweek, Henderson State looks to bounce back at home against Arkansas Tech in a three-game series, starting Friday, Mar. 3, with a single game against the Golden Suns at 5 p.m.
 
The Reddies will conclude the series with a doubleheader the following day, beginning at 12 p.m.
 
REDDIES REPORT
Henderson had its first road game of the season against Texas Women's in the midweek. The Pioneers held HSU scoreless in both games, winning the first 1-0 and the second 4-0. The Reddies logged eight hits across the two games and left five runners on base – two in the first and three in the second. 
 
The Reddies' batting average took a dip after facing Texas Women's, dropping to .256. Josie Copeland registered one of HSU's eight hits in Tuesday's contests and is batting .367 with 11 hits. Kaitlyn O'Quinn and Abbie Moore lead the team with five multi-hit games, closely followed by Justine Burch, who has four.
                       
With runners on the base path, Moore and Katelyn McMahan have done well to advance them home as they lead the team with 15 and 11 RBIs, respectively. Six of Moore's runs batted in came in the opening GAC series against Northwestern Oklahoma State, while McMahan had three.
 
Henderson has recently struggled against Arkansas Tech with the Golden Suns, sweeping the Reddies in the last two series. In the last 50 games, ATU leads the series with 27 wins while HSU has 23.
 
SCOUTING ARKANSAS TECH
The Golden Suns (11-6, 2-0) enter the contest against Henderson on a two-game win streak after sweeping Southern Nazarene in a two-game series. ATU won the opening game 9-0 in five innings and wrapped up the series in the second with a 5-3 win.
 
In the circle, Arkansas Tech is led by pitcher Bailey Buffington who threw a complete game against SNU in the first game and gave up three hits. Buffington has an ERA of 1.01 in 55.2 innings of work and 29 strikeouts. The Golden Suns' fourth-ranked pitching has a team ERA of 2.71 and five shutouts in 17 games.
 
ATU is batting .277 for the season and has two batters hitting over .350. Mackenzie Goins leads the team with 18 hits and has two doubles, one triple and three home runs in 50 at-bats. In addition, Brooke Prewitt has three doubles, four triples and three homers this season.
