Reddies Win Record Fifth Straight, Most in GAC Era

O'FALLON, Ill. - In just head coach Annabel Harvey's second season at the helm of the Henderson State women's tennis program, HSU has set a GAC-era record with five straight match victories after defeating McKendree on the road Tuesday afternoon, 5-2.

After Mulan Kamoe was tabbed as the No. 19 singles player in NCAA Division II in the latest ITA polls, she backed up that ranking with a 2-0 day, joining Kristina Kozlova and Jenna Kate Bohnert with the pair of victories on the day.

After McKendree opened doubles play with a 6-1 at the No. 3 line, Kamoe and Kozlova held off the Bearcats from claiming the doubles nod with a 6-3 at the top spot. With one doubles match left to decide the match's first point, Haarini Balakrishnan and Bohnert improved to 5-1 as partners with a 6-4 win at No. 2 to see the doubles point go the red-and-gray's way.

With Henderson needing three singles matches to go its way in order to claim the overall match, Murcia earned the first nod with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 3 spot. After McKendree grabbed a win at No. 6, it was the nation's No. 19 player's turn as she made quick work of the Bearcats' top player, 6-2, 6-2, to improve her singles record to 9-1 on the season.

After McKendree again alternated wins by triumphing at No. 5, bringing the overall match tally to 3-2 in favor of HSU, Bohnert saw her second win of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 line to claim the match for the Reddies. Kozlova rallied back after her losing her first set, taking sets two and three, 7-6 (7-3) and 10-5, to add another point for good measure.

Henderson St. (8-3) will begin its descent back to the Natural State, but will first make a stop in St. Charles, Missouri to face Lindenwood University Wednesday, Mar. 22, barring weather.
