ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State looks to complete season sweep over cross street rivals Ouachita Baptist in Tuesday's midweek after sweeping the Tigers in a doubleheader earlier this year. The first pitch for the second installment of the Battle of the Ravine is set for 4 p.m. at Sully Anderson Field.
REDDIES REPORT
Henderson (17-22, 9-14) got a big series win over Arkansas-Monticello over the weekend, taking two of three from the Blossoms. The Reddies came from behind to take game one 5-4 and ran away from UAM in the rubber match 15-2 in five innings. HSU's two wins tie them with eighth-place Southern Nazarene in the GAC standings at nine wins.
The Reddies hit the ball well across the series, recording 27 hits, and had a weekend batting average of .325. Leading HSU at the plate over the weekend was
Abbie Moore, who finished the series 4-7 with six RBIs and two home runs.
Katelyn McMahan and
Kaitlyn O'Quinn also had a big series, both going 2-4 at the plate in games one and three and combined for six RBIs.
Earlier this season, Henderson swept Ouachita Baptist in a midweek doubleheader at Dee White Field, winning game one 6-2 and the second 6-3.
Brooke Johnson had a big afternoon at the plate, logging seven RBIs on three hits, including a two-run home run.
Savannah Carrigan locked up the OUA bats in game two, pitching 5.0 frames and striking out five batters.
SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTIST
The Tigers (10-30, 4-19) have lost their last 12 games and have yet to win a GAC series since late February when OUA took two games from Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Tiger's other two wins in conference play were a 6-5 win against Arkansas Tech and an 11-3 win over East Central.
Ouachita Baptist is led by Tuesday Melton in the circle, who has pitched 137.2 innings in 27 appearances and leads the team with 77 strikeouts and a team-low 6.15 ERA. In the first meeting between HSU and OUA, Melton threw all 6.0 frames in game one and allowed six runs on seven hits, striking out two batters.
Erin Williams is one of two players hitting over .300 for Ouachita Baptist and leads the team in hits (43), runs batted in (22) and home runs (7). This season, OUA is batting .248 and is one of five teams with 20 or more home runs.
