MAGNOLIA, Ark. - For the second time in three matches, Henderson State fell in a GAC contest by a slim 4-3 margin after getting edged out by Southern Arkansas Tuesday afternoon.
In all four conference matches played this year, the Reddies have won the doubles point. After
Mulan Kamoe and
Kristina Kozlova took the first doubles match over SAU's Kalley Smith and Greta Wallin at the No. 1 line,
Marianna Murcia and
Tirzah Bailey claimed the point with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
Jenna Kate Bohnert and
Haarini Balakrishnan were ahead, 5-2, when doubles play was called after taking the first two doubles matches. All three doubles duos have a winning percentage of at least .700.
All six singles matches were decided in straight sets. Unfortunately, four of them went the way of the Muleriders. Kamoe, who came in at No. 19 in the latest ITA Division II Singles Rankings, did defeat No. 58 Sarah Roy at the top line, 6-1, 6-3, as she is now 13-2 in singles and 3-0 against nationally ranked opponents.
Murcia, who made her first appearance at No. 4, claimed the second singles point for HSU after giving up just two games to Inna Serpukhova, 6-1, 6-1. The Indiana Tech-transfer is 9-5 on the year and joins Kamoe at 3-1 in GAC play.
Henderson St. (11-5, 2-2 GAC) will play its league finale in Russellville, Arkansas against Arkansas Tech Thursday, Apr. 13 at 2 p.m. Earlier this season, HSU fell to the Golden Suns in Arkadelphia in non-conference action, 4-3.  Â
