BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Henderson State women's tennis 2022-23 season came to an end Saturday afternoon in the GAC Tournament semifinals to No. 1 seed Arkansas Tech, 4-1.
Â
The Reddies finish the year with a 13-7 record, claiming its most wins in a single season since joining the GAC in 2012.
Â
Henderson and Tech split doubles matches No. 1 and No. 3 as the No. 2 line stood to determine the doubles point. Both tandems held serve all the way through as play went to a 6-6 tiebreaker.
Â
The Golden Suns took the match's first point after a 7-4 tiebreaker win for the early 1-0 lead. In the second regular season meeting between HSU and ATU, Tech won 6-1 after taking the doubles nod.
Â
After falling down 2-0 with an Arkansas Tech win at No. 6,
Haarini Balakrishnan played her best GAC match of the season, defeating Sofia Beggiatto at the No. 5 spot in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. Henderson then got first-set victories at Nos. 2-4 to threaten the Golden Suns' lead.
Â
Arkansas Tech's Madelina Amil forced a third set at No. 4 before taking the match, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 for the 3-1 lead. No. 16
Mulan Kamoe at the top line fell in uncharacteristic fashion to No. 35 Lea Grinberg, last year's GAC Player of the Year, 7-5, 6-2 as matches two and three were left unfinished.
