Reddies Take on Arkansas-Monticello in Weekend Series

COVERAGE LINKS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State will look to get back to winning ways in the conference series against Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday and Friday. The three-game slate begins with a single game on Thursday, Apr. 6 at 5 p.m.

REDDIES REPORT
Henderson (15-21, 7-13) fell last time out to No. 20 Harding in a three-game GAC series. The team logged 16 hits over the weekend, scoring six runs, and only had two errors. Kaitlyn O'Quinn and Katelyn McMahan each recorded multi-hit games in games one and three, respectively.

The Reddies relied on the long ball to score runs in the series against the Lady Bisons, recording three home runs that scored four of the six total runs across the weekend. Abbie Moore had solo shots in the second and third games, while Brooke Johnson had a two-run home run in game two.

Moore currently leads the team in homers with eight and is now third all-time in home runs with 28. This season, when the team has one home run in a game, the Reddies are 7-4, and when hitting multiple homers, they are 2-2. If Henderson does not record a big fly, the team is only 6-15.

With four GAC series remaining, Henderson is ninth in the league standings heading into its matchup against UAM. Just ahead of HSU is Southern Nazarene, who holds a one-game advantage for the final spot in the GAC Tournament, though the two sides still have to face each other.

HSU and Arkansas-Monticello meet for the 90th time in the opening game of the series on Thursday. In the most recent contest, Henderson defeated the Blossoms 5-3 at Dee White Field and was led by Moore and Bre Jones at the plate, each recording two RBIs.

SCOUTING ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO
The Blossoms (18-15, 10-10) took two of three games from Arkansas Tech in their most recent series and are in sixth place after the road wins. UAM went through a spell of losses at the start of league play, losing six straight contests but has since turned it around, winning five of its last eight games.

UAM ranks second in the league in batting, hitting .307 as a team, and has scored the third most runs (172) on 248 hits. Leading the Blossoms at the plate is Grace Neal, who has a team-high 42 RBIs and five home runs on 95 plate appearances. Against Arkansas Tech, Neal had three of the team's 22 hits and drove in two runs in game two of the series.

Pitching has been a struggle for Arkansas-Monticello as the Blossoms have given the fourth most runs (164) and hits (262) this season. UAM has leaned on a small pitching staff led by Sam Stephens, who has pitched 62.1 innings in 19 appearances, and batters are hitting .314 against the junior.
