DENTON, Texas – On the first day of competition for the 2023 fall season, the No. 6 Henderson State women's golf team sits in a tie for fifth at the 16-team, 83-player DBU Women's Classic. The Reddies shot a 4-over 292 through the opening 18 – three strokes off the leader, No. 5 Findlay, at 1-over 289.
A part of a stacked field in Denton, Texas, No. 8 University of Indianapolis, Saint Leo and No. 4 West Texas A&M sit above HSU while the Reddies are just out of reach of No. 1 Dallas Baptist and No. 15 Barry.
Of the 16 teams competing at the Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch, nine of them are among the Top-25 in the Women's Golf Coaches Association 2023 Preseason Poll.
Three Henderson golfers recorded even-par 72 rounds as
Daphney Tilton,
Jinna Boonbumroongsuk and newcomer
Felisa Sajulga are each tied for 11th. Tilton and Boonbumroongsuk were a part of HSU's National Semifinal team last season while Sajulga comes in as a junior transfer from Newman University.
Allie Bianchi is currently tied for 44th with a 4-over 76 and
Emmie Eriksson rounds out the Henderson five-bag with a 9-over 81 for a spot at 74th.
All five Reddies will tee off tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. CT as round two begins with a shotgun start.
