ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State gets set for its first trip to the Sooner State for a pair of conference games, beginning on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m. against Southwestern Oklahoma State in the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
REDDIES REPORT
Henderson State (7-5, 3-3) returned to winning ways last time out, with a 20-point victory over Oklahoma Baptist at home 74-54.
Ashley Farrar paced the offense with a team-high 24 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and six assists, while
Makenna Winans led the team at the glass with seven rebounds.
Farrar has seen the basket well in her last four games, averaging 22.5 points per game on 50.0 percent shooting from the field during this stretch. After recording her third 20-point contest of the season in the win over Oklahoma Baptist, Farrar is now the third top scorer in the GAC, averaging 18.7 points per game. Backing the Green Forest, Ark. native in scoring this year has been
Natalie Cardenas and
Tori Gittens. Cardenas is the Reddies' second-highest scorer with 11.7 points per game, followed by Gittens, who is seeing 11.2 points per contest.
The Reddies are one of the best three-point shooting teams in the GAC after knocking down a season-best 14 triples against OKBU. HSU is averaging 8.9 three-point field goals per game, which ranks 7
th in DII, and has made the most triples (107) of any team in the conference. Farrar and Gittens lead the three-point shooting efforts, with 30 and 26 treys on the year, respectively, and both rank inside the top 5 of the GAC in three-point shooting percentage.
Last season, HSU completed the season sweep over Southwestern Oklahoma State, including its first win over the Lady Bulldogs since 2016. In addition, the Reddies picked up their first-ever win in Weatherford after a 57-62 victory, led by
JJ Eddens and
Brynlee Huggins, with a combined 19 points and seven rebounds. Heading into the 29
th meeting, SWOSU leads the overall series 20-8.
SCOUTING SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE
Southwestern Oklahoma State (7-5, 4-2) sits just ahead of the Reddies in the GAC standings after picking up its fourth conference win of the season on the road at Arkansas-Monticello 74-69. The Lady Bulldogs were efficient from the floor in their victory, shooting 46.3 percent from the field, led by Libbi Zinn and Mason Jones who both shot 50.0 percent with 17 and 14 points, respectively.
Like HSU, SWOSU leans on its three-point shooting abilities to score, as the team ranks 11
th in DII in three-point attempts, averaging 26.1 per game. The Lady Bulldogs are converting the second most triples per game (7.7) in the GAC, behind Jones's 30 three-pointers this season on a team-high 46.2 percent shooting mark from beyond the arc. As a team, Southwestern Oklahoma State is converting just 29.4 percent of its shots from deep – 11
th in the GAC – on 313 attempts, which is the most by any team.
SWOSU's Averi Zinn is one of two players scoring in double figures and leads the Lady Bulldogs with 13.3 points per game. The junior guard has tallied ten points in each of her last six contests after recording 12 points in the win against UAM. As a unit, Southwestern Oklahoma State ranks 12
th in scoring with 59.4 points per game and is fifth in scoring defense, giving up 61.8 points per outing.
