SEARCY, Ark.  -  Henderson State's Adiya Abdugappar and Elizaveta Kisel have punched their ticket to their respective flight finals during the first day of competition at the GAC Individual Championships in Searcy, Arkansas.

Abdugappar began the tournament with a hard-fought 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 victory over Arkansas Tech's Maria Krite. In the semifinals, the Shymkent, Kazakhstan, native bested Harding's Natalia Alvarez 6-2, 2-6, 10-8. Tomorrow, the freshman Abdugappar will face Southeastern Oklahoma State's Amishi Shukla for the Flight 5 title.

After receiving a bye in the quarterfinals, Kisel secured her spot in the Flight 8 final by defeating Ouachita Baptist's Marlee Bledsoe 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinal round. She will now face Arkansas Tech's Alfee Stevens in the flight championship tomorrow.

Kristina Kozlova (7-6, 6-4) and Angela Georgieva (6-3, 6-4) also earned quarterfinal victories before seeing their runs in the main draw come to an end in the semifinals.

In doubles, the Reddie team of Jenna Bohnert and Kozlova claimed a 6-0 victory over the Ouachita duo of Ruxandra Tolescu and Sadbaroy Kholdarova. Bohnert and Kozlova did not advance past the semifinal round.

Bohnert and Lily Winter will both compete in consolation bracket finals tomorrow morning. Winter and Georgieva will compete in a doubles consolation bracket final tomorrow in Flight 3. The HSU team of Abdugappar and Angela Dorado Marin will do the same in Flight 2.

Main draw and consolation bracket finals will take place throughout the morning and afternoon tomorrow at the second and final day of the GAC Individual Championships. Women's matches will begin at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning in Searcy. Tournament live stats can be accessed at hsusports.com/coverage.
