ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State will look to keep the momentum going when they host Texas Woman's for the first time at Dee White Field on Tuesday. Opening pitch for the doubleheader against the Pioneers is set for 3 p.m.
REDDIES REPORT
HSU (3-5) picked up its first series win of the season against Delta State over the weekend. Weather played a factor in the tie, as the second game of Saturday's doubleheader was called early in the fifth due to rain and the third contest would be canceled. HSU rolled past the Lady Statesmen in the opening game 8-0 in six innings and went on to take the second contest 5-3.
Brooke Johnson highlighted the first win with a dominant performance in the circle. The Rockwall, Texas native allowed two hits and one walk while striking out seven of the 17 batters faced. In two starts in the circle this season, Johnson leads the team with a 0.82 ERA, having given up just five hits and striking out 11 batters. In the second game,
Presley Applegate grabbed the first save of the season for the Reddies after coming in for relief in the fifth inning and recording three outs.
At the plate,
Miyah Jackson batted in four runs over the weekend on a 2-for-5 hitting, with each hit leaving the ballpark. The junior notched a solo home run in the first contest before recording a three-run blast in the second game. Jackson paces the team with three doubles, three home runs and eight runs batted in. Freshman
Lily Warren had a big day at the plate in game one, going 3-of-4 with an RBI and scored run. Warren leads HSU with nine hits on a team-high .474 batting average and has eight stolen bases.
The Reddies will look to avenge last season's loss to Texas Woman's, who got the better of HSU in a doubleheader 1-0 and 4-0. Henderson and TWU have only faced each other three times, heading into Tuesday's games, and the Pioneers have won all three meetings. This will be the first time HSU and TWU will face each other at Dee White Field.
