ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State picked up two singles victories Sunday before falling to No. 21 Mississippi College, 5-2.
No. 28
Mulan Kamoe and newcomer
Angela Georgieva claimed the singles wins while
Haarini Balakrishnan and
Marianna Murcia picked up a win at No. 3 doubles, but not before HSU dropped the doubles point.
The doubles point went to the Choctaws after Kamoe and
Kristina Kozlova fell to the south region's No. 6 ranked doubles team in Elyangelica Alas and Fernanda Cota at the top line.
Jenna Kate Bohnert and Georgieva fell at No. 2 to clinch the doubles nod for MC.
Kameo and Georgieva got revenge in singles play, starting with Kamoe posting a straight-set victory over Alas at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-1. Georgieva, after losing in doubles to Gabrielle Geolier and her teammate Ana Julissa De Mata, came back with a three-set win over Geolier, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
Henderson State (3-2) will play three home matches this week, beginning with Texas A&M-Texarkana Thursday, Feb. 22. The Reddies will then host Angelo State and No. 24 Texas A&M-Kingsville Friday and Saturday.
