ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State women's basketball concludes its final regular season Oklahoma road trip with a meeting with Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday in the Bloomer Sullivan Arena. Tip off between the Reddies and Savage Storm is set for 1 p.m.
REDDIES REPORT
Henderson (16-9, 12-7) got back in the win column with a dominant 17-point victory against East Central 85-68 to complete the season sweep. Four players registered double-figure points, led by
Tori Gittens and
Ashley Farrar, with 21 and 19 points, respectively.
Olivia Allen dished out a career-high six assists, while
Makenna Winans recorded a team-high eight rebounds.
The Reddies had one of their most efficient games shooting the ball this season versus ECU, converting 55.6 percent (35-63) from the field and 50.0 percent (10-20) from beyond the arc. This was just the second time this year HSU has shot 50.0 percent from both the field and three-point line, with the first time coming against Southwestern Oklahoma State in the first meeting. As a team, Henderson is shooting 40.3 percent from the field and 35.0 percent at the three-point line on the year.
Head coach
Jill Thomas improves to 163-134 all-time at Henderson State and is one win away from tying legendary head coach Jane Sevier for the most wins in program history. Additionally, coach Thomas is also two victories away from holding the title outright as the winningest head coach for HSU. In 11 seasons, coach Thomas has helped produce eight First-Team All-GAC selections, including current Reddie Farrar last year.
HSU eyes its sixth straight win against Southeastern Oklahoma State in Saturday's contest after getting the better of the Savage Storm 75-69 earlier this season. The Reddies lead the series 17-12 going into the 30
th meeting and have only lost to SE twice since 2017. Henderson is 6-5 in the last 11 games as the road team but has won five of its last six games at the Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Farrar paced the team with 22 points on 46.1 percent shooting, while Winans recorded a double-double with a team-high 15 rebounds and 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting. The Reddies trailed by four heading into the fourth period and would outscore the Savage Storm 24-14 for the come-from-behind win.
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE
Southeastern Oklahoma State (10-15, 6-13) is riding a three-game win streak going into the game on Saturday after picking up a 75-68 win over Ouachita Baptist. The Savage Storm have climbed two spots in the league standings and are now one game outside of eighth place. The top eight teams will move on to the GAC Tournament at the end of the season.
Five players reached double-figure points in the win at home against OUA, led by Holli Lindley with 21 points on 58.3 percent shooting. Lindley is second on the team in scoring with 9.0 points per game, while Caitlin Kobiskie, who had 12 points against Ouachita Baptist, leads the team with 14.6 points per contest. Lindley and Kobiskie also lead the rebounding efforts for SE with 7.3 and 6.0 rebounds an outing.
Southeastern Oklahoma State is averaging 60.1 points per game on a 37.1 percent shooting mark from the field and rank sixth in the GAC in three-point shooting, converting 31.4 percent. The Savage Storm have been the second best team at free-throw line this season, as the team is shooting 77.3 percent are tied with HSU for the second-most made baskets (377).
