ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - In its second match in two days, Henderson State narrowly fell to previously-nationally ranked Angelo State, 4-3.
After winning the doubles point in tiebreaker fashion, HSU had two singles matches go three sets before eventually dropping the overall match.
Mulan Kamoe and
Kristina Kozlova earned the first doubles nod with a 6-4 win over the south region's ITA No. 4 ranked tandem, improving to 4-1 on the year. After the Rambelles earned the win at the No. 2 spot, the doubles point rested on
Marianna Murcia and
Haarini Balakrishnan.
With the match knotted at 6-6, Murcia and Balakrishnan staved off Alexandra Vishnevskaya and Ivet Stancheva with a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker to give the Reddies the 1-0 lead.
Angelo grabbed the lead with wins at Nos. 5 and 1 before
Kristina Kozlova tied it at two apiece with a straight set, 6-4, 6-3 win over the No. 11 ranked singles player in the south region.
Angela Georgieva pulled Henderson within one point of clinching with her 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 3 line. The two final singles matches went three sets after HSU's
Jenna Kate Bohnert and Balakrishnan each won their respective first sets before falling in three stanzas.
Henderson State (4-3) will return the court tomorrow when it meets No. 24 Texas A&M-Kingsville at 12 p.m. in the final match of this three-game home stand.
