ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Previously unbeaten is unbeaten no more as Henderson State women's tennis defeated No. 24 Texas A&M-Kingsville from the Bettye Wallace Tennis Center Saturday afternoon, 5-2.

The upset took four hours to come to fruition as four of the singles matches went three sets while two of the doubles matches went to 12 games before a winner was decided.

The Reddies grabbed the doubles point to take the early lead, with No. 2 doubles Jenna Kate Bohnert and Angela Georgieva downing Kingsville's No. 2 tandem, 6-3. Marianna Murcia and Haarini Balakrishnan pulled off an upset of their own for the doubles nod, withstanding the south central region's No. 6 doubles team, 7-5.

Georgieva put HSU ahead 2-0 with a quick 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 3 singles line, but that was the only singles match to not atl east go to a second-set tiebreaker. An ITA Top-30 singles match in No. 28 Mulan Kamoe versus No. 10 Alessa Maier went to the Javellinas, despite Kamoe taking the first set, 6-2.

With the overall match score being 2-1 in favor of Henderson, Kristina Kozlova and Marianna Murcia clinched the match. Kozlova, after taking the opening set, 6-3, stood tall in her second-set tiebreaker, 7-5.

Murcia, after falling behind with a first-set 6-1 loss, fought back to take the second and third set, 7-6 (7-2) and 6-4, respectively. Bohnert put the finishing touches on the match with yet another three-set victory, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-1.

Henderson St. (5-2) will have a couple weeks off before hitting the road for a non-conference contest against Arkansas Tech Wednesday, March 6 at 2 p.m.
