ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State returns home from the Sooner State to host Christian Brothers in a Tuesday midweek doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at Dee White Field.
REDDIES REPORT
After winning the opening game of the series against Northwestern Oklahoma State 5-4, Henderson State would fall in the doubleheader on Saturday, as NWOSU secured the series win 2-1. The Reddies tallied 26 over the three contests, but struggled to slow the Lady Rangers bats, who scored 18 runs on 21 hits.
Lily Warren and
Brooke Johnson led the team in hits over the weekend with five and four hits, respectively. Warren saw two hits in the first game and three in the second before her six-game multi-hit contest streak came to an end in the rubber match. Johnson recorded a hit in each contest, including two for two RBIs in game two, which has seen her batting average jump to .393 on the year.
Erika Bittinger, who has three wins in the circle to start the season, picked up her first save in game one after getting the final three outs, allowing zero runs and zero hits. The Bismarck, Arkansas native has been one of the Reddies' best relief arms in the early parts of the season, having given up just one run across 6.1 frames in the last five games.
After their first GAC series, the Reddies are batting .328 as a team, with Warren leading the red-and-grey with 22 hits on a .500 batting average. In the circle, Henderson has a 6.15 team ERA through 15 games and is giving up an average of 7.6 hits per game. Johnson leads the HSU pitching staff with 17 strikeouts and has only given up five runs on 13 hits in 19.2 innings.
Henderson State will look to avenge last season's loss in the opener to Christian Brothers, who got the better of the Reddies 12-0 in five innings. HSU has not beaten CBU since 2021, when they defeated the Lady Bucs 4-3 and 10-2 in a home doubleheader. Heading into the 11
th meeting between the two sides, Henderson holds a 6-4 edge in the series.
SCOUTING CHRISTIAN BROTHERS
Christian Brothers are also looking to get back to winning ways after getting swept by Montevallo in the Lady Bucs second conference series of the season. CBU is 7-7 going into Tuesday's midweek doubleheader and is 2-4 in GSC play after opening conference play with a 2-1 series win over West Georgia.
The Lady Bucs batting lineup is paced by utility player Summer Alexander with 17 hits in 44 plate appearances and is one of eight players with ten or more hits this season. Providing the power for CBU is Kiera Coulon with four home runs and 11 runs batted in, followed by Kylie Burcks with three homers and 10 RBIs. As a team, Christian Brothers is hitting .303 with 117 hits and are averaging 6.6 runs per game with 93 total runs scored in 14 games.
Emily Schooler has been Christian Brothers' most productive pitcher through 14 games, with 11 appearances and six starts. Schooler has 57 strikeouts in 40.2 innings and has given up 33 runs on 43 hits, with batters hitting .265 against the sophomore. Gabby Dickerson has been the second most used arm for the Lady Bucs with 33.0 innings of work and has struck out 25 batters in 146 at-bats.
