ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Henderson State women's basketball program looks to bounce back when they clash with Southwestern Oklahoma State in the Duke Wells Center on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m.
REDDIES REPORT
HSU has suffered its second straight late defeat after falling to No. 18 Northwestern Oklahoma State 71-63. Similar to the first meeting between HSU and NWOSU this season, the Reddies led heading into the final quarter, but the hot-shooting Lady Rangers would convert their chances at the foul line to snatch the victories.
Despite the second half woes at the basket, the Reddies had four players reach double-figure points as
Jadah Pickens streak of ten-point games continued with a team-high 17 points. The Conway, Ark. native's run of form has seen her become the fourth highest scorer for the red-and-grey, averaging 7.2 points per game.
Tori Gittens followed Pickens with 13 points on 50.0 percent shooting from beyond the arc, which sees the fifth-year remain the most efficient shooter from the three-point line in the league (50.0 percent).
Ashley Farrar and
Makenna Winans rounded out the scoring for HSU with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Winans led the team at the glass, grabbing nine rebounds, including four offensive boards, while
JJ Eddens and
Olivia Allen combined for 13 rebounds. As a unit, Henderson ranks fourth in rebounding with 39.9 boards per game but has struggled to slow opponents at the glass at times, as the Reddies are losing the rebound margin by an average of half-board a game (-0.5).
HSU eyes the season sweep and its fourth straight victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State when the Lady Bulldogs visit the Duke Wells Center on Saturday. The Reddies bested SWOSU 78-71 in the first meeting, with Gittens helping lead the way with 17 points. While the all-time series favors SWOSU 20-9, HSU has seen the recent success the last two seasons, having won the last three meetings, including an 85-65 win at home last year.
SCOUTING SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE
Southwestern Oklahoma State (12-9, 9-6) saw its three-game win streak come to an end on Thursday after the Lady Bulldogs fell to Ouachita Baptist 67-62. SWOSU's defeat to OUA keeps the Lady Bulldogs and Reddies tied in fourth in the league standings at 9-6.
The Lady Bulldogs are led by assists-machine Averi Zinn, who is second in the GAC in assists with 5.0 per game for a total of 104. The junior guard, in her last two games, has tallied 11 assists, including eight in a 66-58 win over Southern Arkansas. Along with creating scoring opportunities for others, Zinn is the Lady Bulldogs' top scorer, averaging 13.6 points per game, and has seen double-digit points in her last seven outings.
SWOSU is the ninth-highest scoring team in the GAC (60.9 ppg) but is 12th in field goal percentage, converting just 34.9 percent of its shots. What the Lady Bulldogs do well is play good defense, and that starts with their 11.0 steals per game. Southwestern Oklahoma State has the fifth-best scoring in the GAC and is holding the opposition to 62.2 points per game.
