ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - In the first match of the women's tennis spring 2024 season, Henderson State defeated in-state opponent Arkansas-Fort Smith, 6-0, with all five Reddie singles winners taking the nod in straight sets.
The Reddies got the match started with a quick sweep through doubles as
Haarini Balakrishnan and defending GAC Newcomer of the Year
Marianna Murcia claimed the first doubles win, 6-1.
After
Jenna Kate Bohnert and newcomer
Angela Georgieva clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 3, the region's ninth ranked doubles team of
Mulan Kamoe and
Kristina Kozlova completed the sweep at the top spot, 6-4. Â
As previously mentioned, all five HSU winners claimed straight-set victories, led by Bohnert at the No. 4 spot, 6-1, 6-0. Henderson's five and six spot clinched the season-opening victory with Murcia and Balakrishnan seeing 6-2, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-1 victories, respectively.
Henderson State (1-0) will return to the Bettye Wallace Tennis Center tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. against Dallas Baptist. The Reddies will close out their opening weekend against Christian Brothers at 2 p.m.
