ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Henderson State softball team heads to the Sooner State this weekend to take on Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday and Sunday. The Reddies and Savage Storm open the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m., followed by a single on Sunday at noon.
REDDIES REPORT
Just ahead of its trip to Southeastern Oklahoma State, Henderson State split a midweek doubleheader with rivals Ouachita Baptist. The Tigers opened the twin bill with a 2-0 win, but the Reddies would earn a split after taking the second contest 5-4 in 10 innings. HSU enters its fourth GAC weekend series 11-14 overall and 3-8 in conference play.
A trio of Reddies tallied a multiple-hit game in HSU's 5-4 win over Ouachita Baptist.
Mackenzie Williams went 2-of-2 with three walks and a run scored, while
Emylee Bittinger and
Josie Copeland combined for four hits and two RBIs. Copeland's second hit of the contest came in the top of the tenth to score the go-ahead run on an RBI double.
HSU is batting .294 as a team through 25 games and has recorded 114 runs on 199 hits, including 29 doubles, three triples and 14 home runs.
Lily Warren leads the team with 31 hits, while Copeland has tallied two of the team's three triples this season. Henderson has also attempted the third most stolen bases in the GAC with 46 attempts on the year and has been successful 38 times.
Meagan Allen got her third win of the season from inside the circle after pitching 5.0 innings and recording three strikeouts in the second game of the doubleheader against OUA. Allen is now tied with
Brooke Johnson with a team-high 23 strikeouts and has seen the most action this year with 41.1 frames of work. Johnson leads the team with a 2.83 ERA, while Allen has a 3.70 ERA, with batters hitting .207 against the senior.
Henderson State will be looking for its first series win in Durant this weekend when they meet Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Savage Storm lead the series 29-16 and have won five of the last six games. Heading into the 45
th meeting in the series opener on Saturday, HSU is just 3-16 at the Southeastern Softball Field.
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE
Southeastern Oklahoma State picked up a midweek sweep over East Central with a 7-5 win in the first game, followed by a 10-0 victory in the second contest. Prior to SE's midweek wins, Southeastern fell to Oklahoma Baptist 0-3 in the weekend series. The Savage Storm are 5-6 through the early goings of conference play and are 11-13 overall.
SE has three players batting .350 or better, led by Gracie Ore, who has a .439 batting average and a team-high 29 hits. Kady Fryear is hitting .390 with 23 hits, including five doubles and a home run, while Sage Harlow leads the team with eight doubles and 14 RBIs on a .370 batting average. Against East Central, the Savage Storm racked up 25 hits, led by Ore with six hits and a pair of RBIs.
In the circle, the Savage Storm rank middle of the pack in the conference with a team ERA of 4.25. Senior Taylor Reese leads the SE pitching staff with 36 strikeouts in 55.1 innings and is 3-5 in 11 appearances. Along with Reese, Southeastern has leaned on Emily Simmons and Amberlyn Walsworth in the circle this season. Simmons has thrown two complete game shutouts with 30 strikeouts on the year, while Walsworth has the best strikeout-to-walk ration on the team with 30 punchouts to just eight walks.
