Softball Tabs Three to the All-GAC Team

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. –  The Henderson State softball program lands three players on the 2024 All-GAC Team, the league announced Wednesday.

Lily Warren earned Second Team All-GAC honors in her first collegiate season and is joined by Hilary Akers and Brooke Johnson who were named All-GAC Honorable Mention. Johnson also received Elite Scholar Athlete honors, while Meagan Allen, Erika Bittinger, Justine Burch, Jordyn Holland and Bre Jones earned Distinguished Scholar Athlete honors.

Warren led the red-and-grey in her freshman campaign with 45 hits in 41 appearances, including 40 starts in the outfield. Earlier this year, Warren saw a six-game multi-hit streak, during which she recorded 13 hits on a blistering .590 batting average.
 
The New Braunfels, Texas native is third in stolen bases across the GAC with 30 stolen bags in 34 attempts and paces the team with 19 runs scored. Warren committed just one error in the outfield, compiling a .978 fielding percentage.
 
Third baseman Akers has been another standout freshman this year. The Houston native paces the side with a .339 batting average and has notched a team-high nine doubles and 20 RBIs.
 
After seeing back-to-back two-hit games to conclude the regular season, Akers has 12 multiple-hit games on the year and is tied for second on the team with 38 hits. From her third base position, Akers has helped convert two of the team's 15 double plays and has 95 assists and 13 putouts.
 
Johnson has been a two-way player this season, making 15 appearances and starts in the circle and 106 at-bats. The Rockwall, Texas native leads the Reddies with 43 punchouts across 61.0 frames and holds a 2.75 ERA. The junior has a 4-6 record in the circle, including a complete game shutout against Southern Nazarene in game two. At the plate, Johnson owns a .236 batting average with 25 hits, including two doubles, a triple and a pair of home runs. 
 
Henderson (22-29, 13-20 GAC) will face Arkansas Tech in the first round of the GAC Tournament on Thursday, May 2 at 10:30 p.m. at the Tiger Athletic Complex.
