Reddies to Open Second Half of Conference Play at SAU

WBB GAME NOTES AT SOUTHERN ARKANSAS: JANUARY 24, 2025

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.  -  Henderson State is set to open the second half of conference play with a Natural State showdown at Southern Arkansas. Tip-off at W.T. Watson Athletic Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 25.

REDDIES REPORT
Henderson State looks to get back on track with its first rematch of the 2024-25 GAC season: Southern Arkansas. The Reddies won in nailbiting fashion, 70-67, when the two teams met at the Duke Wells Center last month. HSU is seeking its first win at W.T. Watson Athletic Center since 2020.

Klowie Pike led the Reddies with 14 points in a Battle of the Ravine loss to Ouachita Baptist on Thursday. The sophomore from Salt Lake City, Utah, has reached double figures in four of her last seven games.

Freshman Riley Samples posted the first double-digit scoring outing of her collegiate career against the Tigers (10 points). Freshmen and sophomores accounted for 17 of Henderson's 20 points in the fourth quarter versus OBU.

Sam Basson recorded four assists on Thursday. She has tallied three or more assists in five of her last seven outings.

Makenna Winans had 11 rebounds against Ouachita, marking the fourth time that she has collected 11 or more boards in a game this season.

With 46 made three-pointers in 2024-25, Brynlee Huggins sits atop the GAC leaderboard in that category. She is also one of the league's top five overall scorers (fourth with 15.5 points per game).

SCOUTING SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
Southern Arkansas enters Saturday's contest after winning a 68-66 overtime thriller against rival UAM to close out the first half of the GAC slate. The Muleriders have won four straight at home versus the Reddies.

Four different SAU players reached double figures against the Blossoms on Thursday. Bailey Harris led the charge with 18 points.

Marlee Bright's 5.9 assists per game currently lead the Great American Conference. She also has the league's best assist-to-turnover ratio (2.6). Her conference-leading average of four steals per game average is nearly double the next-highest average in the GAC (2.2).

Elena Lijo-Rodriguez holds a share of the team lead for rebounds (5.8) and is third in the conference with 1.7 blocks per game. She had two rejections in the win against Arkansas-Monticello.
