ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Riding a 10-game winning streak following back-to-back wins versus Union and a sweep of Southeastern at home the Reddies look to continue their dominance versus the Cotton Blossoms.
The three game GAC series begins on Friday at 6 p.m. under the lights in Monticello. HSU will finish the series on Saturday with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
REDDIE REPORT
Last weekend
Joel Worthington and his squad made HSU history, sweeping the Savage Storm for the first time in GAC history and completing their first series victory since 2017.
The Reddies (11-2, 3-0 GAC) made their first road trip of the season on Tuesday, weather canceled road trips to Jackson, Tenn. and Memphis, Tenn. earlier this month. At Union the Reddies handled business, winning back-to-back games by a score of 3-2 in eight innings and 5-0 in the second game.
During the Reddies 10-game winning streak the Reddies are averaging 5.3 runs per game and are holding opponents to just 1.4 runs per game. HSU has held opponents scoreless in half their games during the streak.
Brooke Johnson (3-0) is posting an ERA of .37 in 19 innings with a team-high 20 strikeouts. Johnson's .37 ERA ranks top 15 nationally and the best mark in the GAC. HSU leads the conference in team ERA (1.71).
Presley Applegate ranks tied for eighth in the country in saves with three saves so far this season.
The Reddies have five betters averaging a batting average of over .300.
Justine Burch,
Macy Hoskins,
Hilary Akers,
Josie Copeland and
Raylee Carey. Copeland is batting .429 in 21 at bats and Burch is batting .361 in 36 at bats. Akers leads the team in total bases and
Mackenzie Williams leads the team in RBI's with eight.
Last season HSU dropped the three-game series versus the Cotton Blossoms and have lost three of the last four series against UAM.
Joel Worthington has led his squad to the longest program winning streak since the creation of the GAC.
SCOUTING ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO
The Cotton Blossoms (5-10 0-3 GAC) have won three of the last four series against Henderson State.
Since winning three of their first four games to begin the season the Cotton Blossoms have lost nine of their last 10 games. Against Mississippi College on Wednesday the Cotton Blossoms dropped both games of the double header, falling 5-4, 11-0.
In their first GAC series of the year UAM was swept by Oklahoma Baptist in Monticello, Ark. The Cotton Blossoms were outscored 26-6 in three games at home and fell 11-1 in the final game of the series.
UAM has three players batting .300 or better, Jadyn Hart is batting .316 and leads the team in stolen bases (3) and RBIs (10) The UAM offense has struggled to begin the season, ranking near the bottom of nearly every hitting statistic in the conference. The Arkansas-Monticello offense does rank sixth in the conference in home runs (7).
The Arkansas-Monticello pitching staff ranks last in the conference in team ERA (6.10) and ninth in the conference in batting average against (.310). Kyann Woods is currently posting a 4.57 ERA and is 2-2 this season.
First pitch in the series is set for 6 p.m. in Monticello, Ark.
