ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Reddies face off against electric Bison offense in home GAC contest.
Henderson State (12-9, 4-7 GAC) is set to face Oklahoma Baptist (14-11, 9-2 GAC) at home in a doubleheader, with games starting on Friday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
REDDIE REPORT
Henderson State has found itself on the opposite side of a few tightly contested battles. The Reddies' last five of six games have been decided by two runs or less, and they nearly walked it off on Tuesday against the Tigers.
Brooke Johnson has been electric this season. Johnson pitched four innings in the first game of the doubleheader and went 2-for-4 from the plate with a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Johnson is still posting a 1.19 ERA and is 3-1 while striking out 39 batters.
The Reddie bats have kept the team in position to win throughout the skid.
Mackenzie Williams found her groove in the midweek, batting 3-for-8 with a run scored.
Justine Burch and
Hilary Akers have remained as consistent as can be. Burch is batting .373 with 22 hits, and Akers is batting .338 with a team-high 37 total bases.
Over the past six games, the Reddies are averaging 2.3 runs per game.
The Reddies will look to bounce back against a Bison squad they have historically struggled against.
SCOUTING OKLAHOMA BAPTIST
Oklahoma Baptist comes into Arkadelphia riding high with four straight wins and is averaging 8.8 runs per game during the stretch. The Bison offense has scored five or more runs in nine of 11 GAC contests.
After a tough nonconference schedule to begin the year, the Bison come to Dee White Field having only dropped two games and winning all four GAC series. In four of their first six contests of the season, the Bison struggled to put together at-bats, but their pitching kept them in games.
In their conference midweek series, the Bison outscored Southern Nazarene 19-11, winning in extra innings in the second game of the doubleheader. The Bison's top bat, Sammie Greene, is batting .493 with seven home runs and a team-high 61 total bases. Against the Crimson Storm, Greene went 4-for-6 with two walks and four runs scored.
The Bison's ace, Jaycee Shaffer, is 7-1 with seven complete games and boasts a team-best 2.13 ERA. Opponents are batting .247 against Shaffer and have hit 13 doubles off the ace.
