ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State turns its attention to top-of-the-conference Southern Arkansas on the road this weekend in Magnolia.
Due to inclement weather on Friday, the series has been pushed back to Saturday and Sunday. The Reddies and Muleriders will play a doubleheader at 4 p.m. on Saturday and will finish the series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
REDDIE REPORT
Henderson State struggled in Bethany last weekend against Southern Nazarene, dropping all three contests to the defending GAC Champions. The closest game came in the finale, where the Reddies fell 5-4 in extra innings after surrendering a lead late.
Last time out, the Reddies split their Tuesday doubleheader with Division I UAPB, winning the second game 6-3.
Jersey Cabana (7-2) earned the win for the
Reddies, pitching 5.1 innings while allowing just one earned run on seven hits.
Presley Applegate came on in relief, throwing 1.2 innings and allowing just one hit and one unearned run.
Cabana has found her groove in recent weeks, improving her ERA to 1.84 and limiting opponents to a batting average of .205 in 61 innings pitched.
The Reddie offense boasts four players with a batting average of .350 or better.
Hilary Akers leads the team in batting average (.371) and total bases (60).
Josie Copeland and
Macy Hoskins have been integral with a combined eight home runs and both posting an OBP greater than .400.
SCOUTING SOUTH ARKANSAS
Southern Arkansas sits in first place in the conference with a record of 26-5 overall and 16-1 in conference play. The Muleriders have not lost a game since February when they dropped the finale of their home series versus Southern Nazarene.
SAU allowed just one run in their last GAC series and out-scored Southwestern Oklahoma State 24-1. In the Muleriders' second game versus SWOSU the offense scored 15 runs, three players hit a home run, and Kelsie Adams launched two home runs.
SAU has a balanced offense with nine players batting .260 or better and all nine posting an OBP of .345 or higher. Sophia Stoddard leads the team in batting average (.333) and has driven in 11 runs. The Muleriders lineup has six different players with two or more home runs this season.
In the circle the Muleriders have two pitchers with an ERA of 1.40 or lower. Brinson Rogers (14-2) ranks Top-10 in the country and leads the GAC in ERA (0.79) while pitching 14 complete games. Rogers's teammate Kassie Rhodes (4-1) boasts a 1.39 ERA and an opponent batting average of .186.
