ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Reddies face big task versus #13 Angelo State but falls late to Rams, 4-0.
In a massive test for the Reddies (4-5, 0-0 GAC) HSU had a great showing, forcing multiple match points and pushing the Rams (10-0, 1-0 LSC) to the edge. Angelo State ranks 13
th in Division II with a perfect 9-0 record and Margaux Rene ranks 23
rd in the country.
The Reddies had to players ranked in the top 75 of the ITA national rankings this week.
Kristina Kozlova was ranked 54
th in the country and
Jenna Kate Bohnert was ranked 75
th.
Against the Rams HSU nearly defeated the Rams #2 doubles team.
Adiya Abdugappar and
Angela Dorado Marin nearly knocked off Benedetta Raggiotti and Rene, with a final score of 6-7, later falling in the tiebreaker.
Angela Georgieva and
Lily Winter picked up a convincing win over Mary-June Quinn and Elise Gillis, 6-4.
In singles Henderson State forced two three-set matches. Kozlova and Abdugappar each forced a third set versus the Rams. Â
Kozlova won her first set 6-0 but dropped the following two sets against Eva Schwartz.
Abdugappar pushed Avery Durham to a third set following a 6-2 victory in the first set, but the match would not be completed, ending the match while trailing.
Three singles matches were not completed.
The Rams defeated each common opponent Henderson State has matched up with earlier this season, defeating Central Oklahoma, Colin County and Northeastern.
The Rams defeated Ouachita Baptist, 5-2, Arkansas Tech, 4-0 and #21 Southern Arkansas, 5-2.
Henderson State returns to action on Tuesday versus a conference opponent, Arkansas Tech in a nonconference battle before GAC play is set to begin later this month. Â
