Women's Basketball Set for First Battle of the Ravine of the Season

ARKADELPHIA, Ark - The Reddie Women's Basketball team is set to cross the street to face Ouachita Baptist in the first Battle of the Ravine of the season. Tip off is scheduled at 5:30 PM in the Vining Arena.

Henderson State are coming off a 2-0 week, where they defeated Southern Nazarene in Overtime 96-85, and then besting Oklahoma Baptist 78-61.

This Reddie offense has quietly become one of the best in the GAC, as it ranks second in points per game (75.7), while shooting 42.1 percent from the field, the third-best in the conference. Natalie Cardenas is the lead scorer for Henderson State, ranking second in the GAC with a 19.8 points per game mark.

Henderson State leads the GAC in three-point percentage (37.1), while attempting the fifth-lowest amount of threes this season. Brynlee Huggins leads the Reddies, and ranks fifth in the GAC with a 41.4 shooting percentage from three.

The Reddies continue to be a strong rebounding team, as they rank fifth in the conference, averaging 38.4 rebounds per game, while limiting opponents to 36.3 rebounds per game. Grayson Fairless leads the team and the GAC in rebounds per game (12.0), the only one averaging 10 or more rebounds.

Henderson State protects the ball well, as they have given up the fewest turnovers in the GAC, surrendering the ball only 178 times, while opponents are averaging 15.0 points off of turnovers.

Scouting Ouachita Baptist
The Tigers went 1-1 last week, defeating Oklahoma Baptist 83-64, before losing to Southern Nazarene, falling in overtime 83-84.

Ouachita is one of the best scoring teams in the GAC, ranking right behind Henderson State, while averaging 73.0 points per game. Madeleine Tipton is the leader for Ouachita, averaging 16.7 points per game, which ranks sixth in the GAC individually.

The Tiger defense is holding opponents to 38.6 percent shooting from the floor, while holding opposing teams to the second lowest three-point percentage in the GAC, only 26.7 percent. Abbey Harrison leads Ouachita in blocks with 19, averaging 1.4 blocks per game.

Turnovers are a weak point for this Ouachita team, as they have given up 233 turnovers, the fifth-highest in the GAC. Opponents are averaging 14.4 points off of those turnovers.

The Tigers are also struggling to generate turnovers, as they have recorded the lowest number of steals in the conference, with only 76, averaging 5.43 steals a game, and have forced the lowest number of turnovers in the GAC, 193.

The Reddies lost the last time they played the Tigers across the street, falling 52-70. When playing in the Vining Arena since 2011-12, HSU is 8-6 against OBU, and is 51-44 all time.
