ENSLEY LIFTS REDDIES PAST UNION UNIVERSITY 81-79

Box Score BOX SCORE

Andrew Ensley's layup with 5.6 seconds left on the clock lifted Henderson State to an 81-79 win over Union University, Saturday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.

With the game tied at 79-79 with 46 seconds left and Union with the ball, Jonathan Fitzgerald's defensive skills enabled him to steal the ball from Corieon Pearson.
The Reddies worked the clock down and Denzel Lyles's 3-point shot with 12 seconds remaining hit off the rim. Melvin Haynes fought for the offensive rebound for
the home team to give Henderson another opportunity.

Haynes got the ball to Ensley and the senior powered his way to the rack to get the bucket plus a free throw. Ensley missed the extra shot forcing AJ Roberts to shoot a desperation shot which fell short at the buzzer.

Henderson State led by as many as 13 points early in the second half, but the Bulldogs slowly cut into the Reddie lead with the help of Pedro Faller's five 3-point field goals.

Union, 1-2 on the season, took its first lead of the game at the 2:59 mark in the second half on a Pearson trey to make the score 75-74. The Bulldogs were able to extend their lead to 77-75 with 2:13 remaining, but free throws by Fitzgerald and Joe McCoy, along with a layup by Ensley tied the score with 1:05 left in the game, making way for the exciting finish.

Four Reddies scored in double-figures led by Lyles who had 19 points including four 3-point field goals.

Haynes ended the game with 18 points and also hit four treys, while Ensley had 17 points and Fitzgerald adding 11. Ensley also had seven rebounds to lead the Reddies.

The Reddies shot 51% (31-of-61) for the game while Union hit 46% (25-of-55) from the field.

Henderson State, 3-0 on the season, struggled from the foul line converting on just 11-of-23 shots from the charity stripe.

Henderson will next be in action on Monday, November 19th as the Reddies tangle with Central Baptist in the Lions Club Tip Off Classic at Jessieville High School with the opening tip set for 7 p.m.
