Davis’ 24 Points Assist In 67-60 Win Over UAM

HSU Dominate In Paint, Rebounding and Second Chance Points

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Henderson State University women's basketball team (5-2, 2-1 GAC) recorded its second straight Great American Conference win as Tiara Davis guided the Lady Reddies with a career-best 24 points in a 67-60 win over the University of Arkansas-Monticello (3-4, 1-2 GAC) Thursday evening in the Duke Wells Center.

Henderson State dominated both in the paint, outscoring the Cotton Blossoms 34-16, and points off the bench, 24-10. The Lady Reddies also ruled the boards, outrebounding UAM, 46-29.

Other top performers for HSU were Dulincia Keener (So., Texarkana, Ark.), Krystal Beachum (Mexia, Texas) and Aungelique Sledge (West Helena, Ark.). Keener posted a career-high in rebounds with 14, while Beachum and Sledge both added 14 points in the victory.

This win marks the fourth straight win over the Cotton Blossoms and seven of their last nine meetings.

Henderson State's defense held UAM to 60 points, who previously came in to the game averaging over 80 ppg to start the 2013-14 season.

The first half was even at the end of 20 minutes with the score deadlocked at 32. The biggest lead either team had was seven and that was near the midway point when the Cotton Blossoms went on a 9-0 run from the 12:37 mark down to the 9:18 mark. The Lady Reddies immediately answered cutting UAM's lead to 23-22 with six straight points of their own. Henderson State tied things up for the sixth time as Sledge drilled a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left.

The Cotton Blossoms scored the first basket out of the locker room at the 18:58 mark, which was the last time UAM saw the lead. The Lady Reddies scored 35 second half points, 15 coming from Davis (Longview, Texas).

Henderson State led by double-digits in two difference occasions. First, Keener grabbed an offensive rebound and laid it back in for a 65-55 lead with 3:06 left and finally in the closing minute as Davis hit her seventh straight free throw as HSU scored their 67th point.
