Box Score For the second time this season, Henderson State was held scoreless by its opponent in the second half as Ouachita Baptist beat the Reddies 41-20, Saturday in front of a record crowd of 12,228 at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium.
The Reddies were limited to 362 yards of offense, while the Tigers managed 392 yards including 215 yards on the ground.
Kevin Rodgers completed 28-of-46 passes for 313 yards to run his career total to 13,678 yards to move into fifth all-time in NCAA Division II history. Rodgers threw his 124th career touchdown pass, ranking him third in NCAA D2 history.
Dustin Holland led the Reddie receivers with seven catches for 104 yards. The senior from Bryant moved into second in HSU history in career receiving yards passing
Robert Jordan. Holland has totaled 2197 yards during his HSU career.
Darius Davis totaled five receptions for 84 yards giving him 3686 career yards.
Henderson State took the early lead as
Ryan McDonald plunged in from two yards out to give the Reddies a 7-0 lead with 8:08 left in the first period. The big play of the drive was a 40-yard reception by Holland on the opening play of the drive.
OBU quickly answered as Kiehl Frazier connected with
Jalen Jones for a 38 yard touchdown strike at the 6:16 mark in the quarter.
The Reddies, 9-2 on the year, answered OBU's score as Rodgers hit
JaVante Mack for a 16 yard score just before the end of the quarter.
On OBU's next drive,
Trevon Del Rio pressured Frazier who fumbled the ball with
Dijon Benton recovering on the Tiger 14.
The Reddies had to settle for a 27-yard field goal by
Houston Ray to make the score 17-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The Tigers then scored the next two touchdowns on run of 3 and 45 yards by Steven Kehner to put the Tigers on top 21-17 with 6:25 left in the half.
The Reddies would cut the deficit to 21-20 at the half as Ray kicked a career-long 47-yard field goal as time expired in the half.
The second half belonged to the Tigers as Frazier had a 12 yard scoring strike to Drew White at the end of third quarter.
The Tigers capitalized on a pair of Reddie miscues in the fourth quarter getting a pair of 1-yard run by Frazier following an interception and a mishandled snap on a punt.
Defensively,
Josh Davis was credited for a career-high 18 tackles and a forced fumble, while
Gary Vines totaled 12 tackles and
Lawson Schulz 11.
OBU's Steven Kehner carried the ball 24 times for 126 yards and three touchdowns, while Frazier completed 12 of 22 passes for 177 yards.
Henderson State honored its remarkable senior class of 18 players prior to Saturday's game.
Nine of the Reddie seniors were four-year lettermen with seven earning all-conference honors and three All-American honors during their career.
The senior class accumulated a 36-9 record, a 30-3 Great American Conference mark, two GAC Championships, two NCAA playoff appearances and led the nation in scoring and total offense in 2012 and 2013.
