SOFTBALL TEAM BEATS CAMERON, LOSE TO DSU AND TSU

The Henderson State softball team opened the season playing three straight games with the Lady Reddies beating Cameron 10-6, but losing to Delta State 7-0 and Tarleton State 8-2, Saturday at Dee White Field.

Attempting to play as many games as possible before inclement weather hits the area, the HSU/OBU Classic schedule was changed forcing Henderson to play three games on opening day.

The day began with Delta State banging out 14 hits off Lady Reddie pitching as the Lady Statemen cruised to a 7-0 win.

Henderson State rebounded to beat Cameron 10-6 in game two.

Amber Klug went 3-for-4 in the game including having a home run and driving in three runs for the Lady Reddies.

Amy Halter and Morgan South had two hits each with Halter having a double and RBI, while South had a pair of RBIs and a double.

Cagen Medlock picked up the win in the circle for Henderson striking out four batters.

In the finale, Tarleton State erupted for five runs in the sixth-inning to beat the Lady Reddies 8-2.

Halter, Klug, and South continued to provide the bulk of the offense with Halter going 2-for-4 in the game, while Klug was 2-for-2 with a double.

Klug was Henderson's offensive leader for the day going 6-for-9, with two doubles, a home run, and a pair of RBI.

Halter finished the three games going 5-for-12, while South was 4-for-10.


Henderson State is scheduled to play Delta State at Noon on Sunday, followed by a rematch against Tarleton State at 2:30 p.m. at Dee White Field.
